PALMYRA: Alsdorf, Norma (Lockwood), passed away peacefully on June 12, 2017 after celebrating her 100th birthday on March 3rd. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 17th at 11am at the Western Presbyterian Church of Palmyra with a reception to follow in Fellowship Hall. Contributions in memory of Norma may be directed to Western Presbyterian Church Choir and/or Women's Association (Circle 4), 101 East Main St., Palmyra, NY 14522. Norma is survived by her daughter Susan A. Luechauer; son Stephen B. (Laura) Alsdorf; grandchildren Kurt Luechauer, Heidi L. Williams, Haley Marble, and EmmaLee Alsdorf and 3 nieces. She was predeceased by her husband James R. Alsdorf; daughter Mary G. Alsdorf; grandson Jason L. Alsdorf; brothers Lynn Lockwood and William Lockwood and sisters Bernice Lockwood and Doris Kesauer. A 77-year resident of Palmyra, New York, Norma was born on March 3, 1917 in Boonville, New York to William and Edna Lockwood. Norma graduated from Syracuse University where she exercised her passion for singing in a sorority trio named “Perfect Pitch”. Upon graduation, she moved to Palmyra to teach Home Economics at Palmyra High School. She was particularly proud to start and administer the first hot lunch program at the school. She was also active as a Girl Scout troop leader during WWII while her new husband Jim was serving in Europe. She became very active in the Western Presbyterian Church and remained so for 60 years. Norma led and served in any and every available volunteer role through the years including President of the Women’s Association and singing in the choir for more than 35 years. Though she left teaching to raise a family, she remained devoted to quality education and served on the Board of Education as Vice-President for the recently consolidated Palmyra and Macedon school districts.  In her later years, she enjoyed her grandchildren, serving her husband, Jim and continuing to lead Bible Studies into her 90’s. Norma Alsdorf will be remembered as a woman of service and faith in Jesus Christ
