Palmyra: Kommer, Ralph G., died on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at the age of 92. Friends and family are invited to gather on Monday, February 10 at the Macedon Center United Methodist Church for a celebration of Ralph's life. We'll begin with a memorial service at 2pm followed by a time of remembrance and celebration. In honor of Ralph's spirit and enthusiasm, please wear your Buffalo Bills gear. Ralph was born on January 15, 1933 to Gottlieb “Gus” and Mildred Hack Kommer in the same house his mother had been born in. Ralph attended a one-room schoolhouse thru 5th grade then transferred to Palmyra Schools and graduated from Palmyra High School in 1952. In 1955 Ralph married Helen Smith whom he leaves. He is survived by a son Kevin (Molly) Kommer and a daughter Kathy (Bill) Courtney. Ralph is also survived by his grand-daughter Alexa (Alexander Goettel); step-grandchildren Megan (Barry) Wutzke, Mark (Kate) Farrell and Timothy (Laura) Farrell and 8 step great-grandchildren.
Ralph worked for his father on the farm until 1961 when he started and ran a trucking business until selling it in 1994. In 1987 he purchased the West Wayne Theatre in Macedon and ran it until 2006. He was invited to join Palmyra-Macedon Rotary where he was a member and served as president in 1990-91. Eventually he became District Governor for Rotary District 7120 and served in that capacity from 1997-98. Ralph was active with many rotary committees and was the driving force in the formation of Rotary-Lions Concessions, the partnership that provided food concessions at the Hill Cumorah Pageant for many years. Ralph served as the treasurer of Palmyra United Methodist Church for 30 years and later at the Macedon Center United Methodist Church where he was a member. Ralph had been an active member of the Wayne County Business Council for many years.
