John Louis Schmidt, 86 passed away on February 14, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. Born on September 26, 1938 in Rochester, New York the son of Louis and Louise Schmidt. Family and friends are invited to call from 1-3pm on Saturday, February 22 at Robert L.Yost Funeral Home, Inc, 123 West Main Street in Palmyra, New York. Burial will take place at a future time. John graduated from East High School in Rochester, New York. He was a valued employee of the State School of Industry in Rush New York for over 28 years as an electrician/lineman until he retired due to a work accident.
John lived a life filled with adventure, laughter and a deep love for the outdoors. An avid fisherman and hunter he found joy in the quiet serenity of nature and the thrill of the chase. Whether casting a line into a still lake or tracking game through the woods/swamps, he embraced every moment with enthusiasm. John had an outgoing and friendly personality. He had a saying for every situation and a great sense of humor. His warmth and wit endeared him to those who knew him making every gathering more enjoyable.
Beyond his love for the outdoors, John enjoyed playing cards (euchre, cribbage), bowling, gardening, splitting wood, keeping the woodstove glowing, and working on jigsaw puzzles. These pastimes brought him both relaxation and camaraderie with friends and family.
In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by sister Suzanne Yorks; daughter Robin Favo and brother Matthew Schmidt. He is survived by his wife Maurina; daughters Betty (Michael) Northrup, Marcia (Bryant) MeKeel, Sarah Schmidt and Jon; Son Mark (Sandy) Schmidt; son-in-law Wayne Favo; sisters Patricia Lucas, Marilyn Gamrod, Connie (Stu) Wheaton, and Betsy (Gerald) Peritore. John is also survived by 9 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. John’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his adventurous spirit and laughter continue to bring comfort to all who cherished him.
