The daughter of James Jordan and Josephine Fitzpatrick (both deceased), and sister to Mary Garcia and Margaret Jordan (both deceased). She is survived by her husband Bill Moore. Joan received a BS from Holy Names College and an MS in English from UCLA. She had a lifelong interest in creative writing. Joan lived in Seattle, WA for seven years, then moved to Macedon, NY. She worked for Keuka College before becoming Macedon correspondent for the Courier Journal, where she also contributed investigative and human interest articles. Joan served as the public relations person for the Pal-Mac School District where, amongst other things, for over 20 years she wrote and edited the Palmyra-Macedon Central School District calendar. In 1990 her accomplishments were recognized by the Board of Education. She was a founding member of Palmyra Macedon Dollars for Scholars, and served on the board of trustees for 25 years. Joan was the architect of the Phone-a-thon and accepted the responsibility of organizing a database of two thousand donors. For fifteen years she wrote the Awards Ceremony script, a two hundred page document which honored scholarship donors and described the resume of student recipients. Joan was very active in the Friends of the Macedon Library. She was instrumental in establishing and maintaining the Friends Endowment for the Macedon Public Library, and helped organize the Friends book sales. She helped catalog the Bullis books, and was a member of the Bullis Room committee. She was active in the Book Review group and supported many other activities. Her humor, integrity, work ethic and compassion were unrivaled. She was someone in whom people could place their absolute trust, a woman of quiet dignity.
