CLIFTON SPRINGS: Bonnie Lee (Catchman) Burgess passed away on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at the House of John Hospice in Clifton Springs, 20 years shy of her 100th birthday. At her request, no memorial services are planned. She will be buried at the Port Gibson Cemetery. Donations in her memory can be made to the House of John (14 Spring St., Clifton Springs, NY 14432), Clifton Springs Hospital Foundation (2 Coulter Road, Clifton Springs, NY 14432), or the Port Gibson United Methodist Church Memorial Fund (PO Box 234, Port Gibson, NY 14537). Bonnie was born April 30, 1936, in Palmyra, NY, to John Morris and C. Marjorie (Randall) Catchman. She grew up on Jackson Street and graduated from Pal-Mac High School, class of 1954. Bonnie married Gary H. Burgess at the Port Gibson Methodist Church in 1955. She was left with three young children when Gary died unexpectedly in 1968, so she went to work. She worked for Phelps-Clifton Springs School District as a teacher's aid at Clifton Elementary for 23 years, retiring in 1991. After that, her many accounting jobs included working for vet Dr. John Wright, Cycle Genesis, and Midlakes Management. She retired for good in 2006. She was a NASCAR fan, cheering on Mark Martin and going to races at Watkins Glen, Daytona, and Chicagoland. She made many trips to see family in Florida, Montana, Seattle, and as far as Japan once. She crafted, crocheted, knitted, scrapbooked, and following in her mother's footsteps, baked cookies that everyone always looked forward to. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers, John "Jack" and Vernon "Butch" Catchman. She is survived by her sister Carol Suhr; children Cindy (Tim) Cheuvront, John (Patsy), and Laura (Sonny Love) Moss; her "three grands" Jack (Kathleen Arrigotti) Burgess, Aya (Britta Lundin) Burgess, and Jordan Moss; many nieces and nephews; lots of special friends including Merna Dangle and Patty Vlasak; and cousin Michael (Joyce) Randall.
